Commemorate the Western Front battles with Anthony Seldon
Between 1914 and 1918, millions of men clashed across a brutal 475-mile stretch of "No Man's Land" that extended from the North Sea to the Swiss border.
This tour commemorates some of the key battles of the First World War, discussing the devastating consequences of the Great War and covering some of the most significant sites along the old Western Front.
Joining you on this tour is historian and author Sir Anthony Seldon, who'll impart the insight and knowledge which have made him a respected voice in history and politics, having written and edited more than 45 books on contemporary history and worked as an honorary historical adviser to 10 Downing Street.
Your first day includes a visit to the Gheluvelt Plateau, where fighting took place during the Third Battle of Ypre as British and German soldiers fought for possession of the plateau, and to the Zandvoorde Commonwealth War Cemetery to reflect on the many lives lost.
At the end of your first day, Sir Anthony will give an illuminating talk, reflecting on the sites visited that day and the battlefields you'll visit throughout the trip.
Other excursions will include St Julian and the Frezenberg Ridge, Boezinghe and the Pilkem Ridge. You'll also head south to visit the fascinating Wellington Quarries a network of tunnels used by British and Commonwealth forces beneath Arras during the 1917 offensive.
A full day's study of the Somme fighting in 1916 will include visits to Newfoundland Park, Hawthorn Ridge Crater, The Sunken Lane, High Wood, Delville Wood and the Butte de Warlencourt.
You'll be based at two excellent hotels throughout your trip, first in Ypres, before travelling south to Amiens.
